What is Direct to Board Printing?

This method involves printing your design directly onto a rigid surface which is standard practice for non-rigid materials such as vinyl banners and is superior for rigid signs.

Advantages

  • Vivid and Crisp: Offers sharp, vibrant reproduction of text and images.
  • Durable: UV inks provide a fade and scratch-resistant finish, which is ideal for outdoor use.

Disadvantages

  • Permanent Design: Unlike vinyl overlays, direct printing prevents easy updates of the artwork. Best for long-term use on materials like aluminium ACM or rigid plastic

What is a Vinyl Overlay?

A vinyl overlay is a vinyl sheet with either a printed design or solid color, adhered to a rigid material. These overlays offer a cheaper alternative to smaller sign shops who often can’t afford large flatbed printers.

Advantages

  • Ideal for Temporary Signs.
  • Easy to remove and replace,
  • Perfect for frequently changing information.
  • Cost-effective when only replacing the old vinyl,

Disadvantages

  • Installation Issues: Can be tricky to apply without bubbles or lines, and edges may peel if not handled carefully.
  • Weather Vulnerability: Over time, the adhesive weakens, causing the overlay to peel, especially in outdoor conditions.
  • Risk of Vandalism: Easily damaged or removed by passersby.
