You will benefit from understanding this marketing tool when running your printing business as you are likely considering ways of sustaining sales or growing your business.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I was made aware of this tool at a training seminar held by CEED (Centre of Engineering, Education and Development).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-41e8b0d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"41e8b0d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\"Do not spend your time developing new products to sell in new markets.\"<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e608b51 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e608b51\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Day one of the seminar ended on the above punchline &#8211;\u00a0 Ouch, that hurt, I had spent the last 10 years trying to iron out seasonality \u2013 Consultancy based selling we found slow to grow (signage and display projects took a long time to come off and they always came along 3 at a time).<\/p><p>We manufacture signs and display graphics with many disciplines under one roof.<\/p><ul><li>3.2m wide roll to roll<\/li><li>3.5 x 2.5m Flatbed<\/li><li>Digital Cutting<\/li><li>Welding &#8211; A) and is the fastest, safest and lowest cost method of growing our businesses. a simple growth strategy\u2026 that everyone is doing but we are all competing on price when it\u2019s a commodity, yes?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-59cc637 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"59cc637\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Product Development - New Products Sold to Existing Markets (Customers)<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a8769e9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a8769e9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I think we, Print, Sign and Graphics suppliers, are the underdog of engineering.\u00a0Every day throws us curve balls, problems we did not know how to do: so we bend, bash, stretch, fold and then make it, applying all our \u201cCommon Sense\u201d thus \u201cinventing\u201d and Building New Products.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>These New Products are then sold to our Existing Clients, Product Development (<b>Top Right Box<\/b>).\u00a0<\/p><p>We have developed some cardboard engineered products and can take them to our existing customers and sell what they can\u2019t get from our competitors.\u00a0But it is new, we encounter problems in developing the weird and wonderful stuff we have never done before.\u00a0Does this sound familiar?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e8d41b9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e8d41b9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Market Development - Existing Products to a New Market <\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-06d023b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"06d023b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"line-height: 27px;\">But what about New Market sectors (<b>Bottom Left Box<\/b>)?\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"line-height: 27px;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"line-height: 27px;\">We had a roll to roll printer and a Rolls Roller, why not sell estate agent boards &#8211; print queues across 9 printers with dedicated stocks \u2013 this can happen in 60 seconds, yes 60 seconds, from anywhere in the world<\/p><p><b>The benefit to our customers is that they do not have to invest in the technology to be able to sell large format print to their existing customers: Take our existing products to their existing customers and they will grow safely with minimal risk.<\/b><\/p><p>We did not stumble upon this.\u00a0Instead we made many costly mistakes by trying to take new products to new markets we did not understand but we became field leading software developers who were hands on manufacturers and applied process to each product that we have \u201ccommoditised\u201d.\u00a0We have moved all the learning and experience from Diversification into the
