but you are going to be soooo clever!<\/h3>\n<h2>Self Adhesive Vinyl (SAV, Stickers)<\/h2>\n<p>Okay, this is not as straight forward as you may think.&nbsp; There are 2 main parts to self adhesive vinyl:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Vinyl<\/li>\n<li>The Glue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s the easy bit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"764\" height=\"521\" src=\"https:\/\/graphicwarehouse.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Stickers.jpg\" alt=\"Self Adhesive Vinyl (SAV)\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graphicwarehouse.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Stickers.jpg 764w, https:\/\/graphicwarehouse.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Stickers-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px\"><\/p>\n<h2>The Vinyl<\/h2>\n<p>There are 3 main types of vinyl that we use.&nbsp; Vinyl is Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monomeric Vinyl<\/li>\n<li>Polymeric Vinyl<\/li>\n<li>Cast Vinyl<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of the above have a different cost based on the complexity of the process of manufacture but each type has unique characteristics for different applications \u2013 this is very important.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBookmark this<br \/>\njust in case you have no paint to watch dry.<\/h3>\n<h2>What is the difference between monomeric, polymeric and cast vinyl?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mono \u2013 means one<\/li>\n<li>Poly \u2013 means more than one<\/li>\n<li>Meric \u2013 means a boy or unit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is all to do with the way the molecules are bonded to each other and I don\u2019t this it is important to understand this, it is more important to understand why they are different.<\/p>\n<h2>Monomeric Vinyl<\/h2>\n<p>This is popular because it is lower cost and ideal for flat surfaces (windows, flat panels of vehicles and stickers applied to a flat surface).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why use Monomeric Vinyl?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ideal for flat applications<\/li>\n<li>Lower in price<\/li>\n<li>Short-medium term lifespan (2-3 years)<\/li>\n<li>Best for indoor use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Monomeric vinyl is bad for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Long-term use<\/li>\n<li>Uneven surfaces<\/li>\n<li>Can shrink<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKeep reading you are almost<br \/>\nin Large Format Stickers.<\/h3>\n<h2>Polymeric Vinyl<\/h2>\n<p>This is a vinyl used for both indoor and outdoor.&nbsp; It can be applied to a gentle curve.&nbsp; It has a lifespan of 5-7 years.&nbsp; It is more resistant to shrinkage but will shrink.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why use Polymeric vinyl?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medium Term Lifespan \u2013 5-7 years<\/li>\n<li>Less Shrinkage<\/li>\n<li>Can be used for gentle curves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Polymeric Vinyl is not great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s a bit more expensive that monomeric but cheaper than cast.<\/li>\n<li>Cannot be used to wrap a vehicle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Cast Vinyl<\/h2>\n<p>Cast vinyl is the premium and it is priced accordingly.&nbsp; It is thin, soft and highly flexible making it great for wrapping a vehicle.&nbsp; It has the least shrinkage and returns to its original form when heated with a heat gun.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why use cast vinyl?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Longevity<\/li>\n<li>Great for vehicle wrapping<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cast vinyl is not great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s expensive, so don\u2019t use this for low value jobs or where flexibility is not required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMy goodness you have<\/h3>\n<h2>Glue \u2013 The sticky bit on the back of you (SAV or Sticker)<\/h2>\n<p>There are loads of different types of glue and new technologies arrive annually from the manufacturers.&nbsp; I\u2019ll try and simplify this for you.&nbsp; You should consider the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the vinyl to stick to?<\/li>\n<li>How long should it stick?<\/li>\n<li>Who is fitting the graphic?<\/li>\n<li>Transparency &#8211; Waterbased and Acrylic Glues?<\/li>\n<li>Opacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/graphicwarehouse.co.uk\/products\/vinyl-stickers.html\" role=\"button\"><br \/>\nClick here for Instant Prices<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What is the vinyl to stick to?<\/h2>\n<p>So, have you seen that plastic on a motocross motorbike?&nbsp; Yea, well it\u2019s a nightmare to get a vinyl sticker to stick to it because the surface has a \u201clow tension\u201d making it almost impossible to get anything to stick to this.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, remember to test the surface of a wall for silicone.&nbsp; Many hospitals and pharmaceutical plants are painted with silone based paints so that \u201cnothing\u201d will stick to the walls.&nbsp; I have seen the highest rating of glue \u201cfall off\u201d a wall 2 weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>The glues are rates by newtons per square inch.&nbsp; This is how the stickiness is determined.&nbsp; Most glues on self adhesive vinyls are activated by pressure (pressure sensitive) and they do not get to there full adhesive strength until 24hours after application.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWake Up!<br \/>\nhave almost finished!<\/h3>\n<h2>How long should it stick?<\/h2>\n<p>Select the correct adhesive for the duration of the time the self adhesive sticker will be in use.&nbsp; For example a road traffic sign will probably require a 12 year glue.&nbsp; However and event graphic will need a short-term glue.<\/p>\n<p>You should also be aware that some glues to do not want to leave the glue on the item you want to stick the graphic to.&nbsp; Can you imagine removing a floor graphic or window sticker for the vinyl to remove but the glue to remain on the surface.&nbsp; This can take hours to remove and be very costly in labour and chemicals.<\/p>\n<p>Some glues are designed not to remain on the substrate (the item the sticker has been affixed to) but this will only last a specified period before the glue becomes brittle and difficult to remove.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is fitting the graphic?<\/h2>\n<p>I find this interesting, I know.&nbsp; Glues are becoming so advanced.&nbsp; Some do not stick when you affix them to the substrate and then add heat.&nbsp; Others have air channels to allow bubble to be pushed out (air release vinyl).&nbsp; This technology is great for novices and experts because it speeds up the time it takes to install\/fit the sticker\u2026 sometimes they can be large!<\/p>\n<p>Paying extra for an air-release vinyl can save you in labour and reduce the risk of damage when fitting.<\/p>\n<h2>Transparency  &#8211; Waterbased and Acrylic Glues<\/h2>\n<p>Some stickers are transparent.&nbsp; I remember years ago not knowing about different glues and learning the hard way when fitting a window sticker.&nbsp; We stick to waterbased or acrylic glues.&nbsp; We prefer acrylic glues for transparent window stickers because water based glues go cloudy when applied with water.&nbsp; This can be a nightmare as big graphics end up looking terrible and the client rejects the job and it ends up in the bin.<\/p>\n<h2>Opacity<\/h2>\n<p>Finally, imagine you are fitting a new graphic to a window.&nbsp; There are already graphics on the window and there is no time to remove.&nbsp; In these occasions we us a grey glue backed vinyl.&nbsp; This will help block out the image below.&nbsp; This is more common than you would think.&nbsp;
